FAB installs directly on a single battery or a bank of batteries to eliminate sulphation (the leading cause of premature battery failure), the result is maximum performance and service life from your batteries and electrical system components. FAB is also an efficient Battery Rejuvenator, restoring lost capacity as a result of Sulphation.

FAB and The Environment

Battery disposal and or recycling damages the environment.
Lead is damaging to human and animal health.
Producing new lead and recycling discarded batteries is energy intensive, the emissions raise the global carbon footprint.
FAB reduces the need to produce new batteries and recycle old batteries.

Lead-Acid batteries have for over 50 years been the most commonly used type of battery in Automotive, Marine, Aviation and Stationary Applications worldwide, and as a result the demand for the manufacture of lead for Battery plates globally is currently at 7 million tonnes per annum. The Automotive and Marine industries are the largest users of lead globally.

This creates a number of environmental problems because the process of extraction and manufacturing of lead, uses large amounts of energy which creates and releases large quantities of Greenhouse emissions into our atmosphere, also the production of new lead and the recycling of used lead releases toxic compounds into the atmosphere.

Then there is the unfortunate reality that in some third world countries discarded batteries are dumped into landfill directly causing drastic health consequences for both human and animal life.

The Ramifications of sulphation

Sulphated batteries cause alternators, starter motors and electrical components to fail, this is because a sulphated battery causes the battery and system voltage to be depressed.

The knock-on effects:

  • Alternators work at higher current for longer trying to charge the battery.
  • Battery voltage and overall system voltage will rise slowly.
  • Heat is generated as a result of high internal resistance and high alternator current.
  • Battery electrolyte will boil off as a result of the heat during charging.
  • Battery plate warping will occur as a result of the heat during charging.
  • Vehicles struggle on reduced voltages, especially ignition systems, lights & computers.
  • Starter motors overheat and fail as result of low voltage and high current load.
  • Alternators fail as a result of working longer at higher output and overheating.

The cost of doing nothing!

During operation cycles of lead-acid batteries, lead sulphur from the electrolyte combines with oxygen as the battery is discharged to form lead sulphate crystals which bond to the battery plates. This process is called sulphation (see image at right). Over time the sulfate crystals expand, choking the plates, reducing efficiency to the point where the battery will no longer accept a charge or supply a load. Sulphation build-up on battery plates is a leading cause of battery failure, the insulating barrier produced around the battery plates, prevents the electrochemical process from taking place.

One FAB Model for All Applications

New FAB-MK5 Battery Conditioner / Rejuvinator makes the process of selecting the correct model for the correct voltage installation super easy, with a single Model capable of auto sensing and adjusting to the correct voltage system from 6 volt to 48 volt. FAB-MK5 can condition a single battery or a bank of batteries up to 2000 ah. For large battery banks multiple FAB-MK5 units can be installed in series, please refer to diagrams below or email us for specific installation diagrams for your application.

Parallel Connection

The capacity in Ah is the sum of the individual battery capacities, the voltage remains the same. e.g. 4 x 12v / 100Ah batteries in parallel = 12v / 400Ah battery bank.
Use one FAB working at 12v

Series Connection

The capacity remains the same for the bank as the individual battery, the voltage is cumulative. e.g. 4 x 12V /100Ah batteries in series = 48V /100Ah battery bank.
Use one FAB working at 48V.

Series / Parallel Connection

The capacity in Ah is the sum of the individual battery bank capacities.
e.g. each bank of 2 x 12v / 40Ah batteries in series = 24v / 40Ah
Total 3 x 24v / 40Ah battery banks in parallel = 24v / 120Ah battery bank.
Use one FAB working at 24v.

Multiple FAB units on large battery bank

72 Volt battery bank using 12 x 6V batteries connected in series.
Use two FAB units working at 36V connected in series.
